Manage diabetes with a vegetarian diet

The evidence is clear that eating a plant-based diet has health benefits. And, research shows that following a vegetarian diet can help manage and even prevent diabetes.

This is especially true with a vegan diet.

This type of eating plan is often naturally high in fiber, which helps you feel full for longer periods and helps with eating too much, and low in saturated fat.

Vegetarians who take in more than 50 grams of fiber often see lower blood glucose levels and better insulin responses.

It is important to recognize that your diet should include a good mix of vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, soy products and whole grains to ensure that you are getting plenty of protein and other essential nutrients.

It’s best to speak with a dietitian and check your blood sugar levels to ensure you are getting the right rations of micronutrients and enough calories.
